Plant Description

Description: Spreads to form a vigorous, shrubby ground cover with many showy, yellow flowers. Attractive to butterflies. Drought tolerant once established in well drained soils. Salt tolerant.

Lifespan: Perennial; occasionally annual or a short-lived perennial

Light exposure: Full sun to high pine shade

Bloom color: Yellow

Bloom season: Mid-spring to fall

Height (in bloom)2 to 3 feet

Habitat: Dry sandy open areas (coastal; disturbed)

Note: Do not use on Florida's west central gulf coast as this species could hybridize with the rare, endemic West coast dune sunflower (Helianthus debilis subsp. vestitus).
